Garage Conversion

Wells, Somerset, England.
Type: Garage Conversion

What was the client's brief?

We were asked to create a proposal for the conversion of an unused garage space to create a new bedroom / office space at ground floor level future proofing the property for use as our client aged. The conversion was also required to have a large kitchen allowing the existing kitchen to become a large utility room with a new toilet.

What did we do?

We looked at the existing garage space and decided to raise the roof to ensure there would be adequate space for all the insulation whilst creating good ceiling heights internally. We balanced the space to create a hallway, single bedroom / office and large kitchen space. Through the proposal we also ensured a level threshold was created from the existing dwelling into the extension. All the spaces created can adequately be used with a wheel chair creating a perfectly future proof dwelling space at ground floor level.

The design of the conversion has been kept simple. The parapet has been raised to allow space for the new roof and a new coat of render has been applied to the front and rear elevations. The render ties in with the existing building and street scene to ensure the design doesn't look out of place within the street.
