Meet the NERDS ...
Nerd is a family practice run by husband and wife duo Connor and Katie from their studio in Wells. A handful of active projects are carefully attended to by a tight-knit team of architects and designers, all with a unique role to play.
We aim to provide a friendly local architecture studio with a breath of design and technical experience, we are committed to designing contemporary and sustainable building that are perfectly suited to their site, client, users and budget.
Katie Payne
Founding Partner & Architect
BA(Hons), Prof Dip, ARB
Katie founded Nerd Architecture in 2018 to design buildings which delight. This ethos, together with Katie’s experience and creativity, underpins the work of the practice.
Born in the South East of England, Katie trained in architecture at the University of Kent and later at the Centre for Alternative Technology where she met Connor and University of the West of England.
Connor Backhouse
Founding Partner & Architect
BA(Hons), Prof Dip, ARB
Connor plays a key role in ensuring that quality expectations of detail and construction are met by collaborating on design and overseeing the technical works for a project.
Connor studied architecture at Leeds Metropolitan University and at the Centre for Alternative Technology and the University of the West of England, joining Katie in the studio in early 2019.
